The Centenarian Olympics

April 2, 2020

The what?

The centenarian Olympics. Doing stuff, living life at 100.

I was planning to write a different email yesterday when a good friend of mine sent me a link to this video.

I follow Dr Attia (the guy in the video) as he is quite smart and does the heavy lifting with researching complex subjects and 'splaining stuff.

This video really resonated with me. It puts life into perspective.

He's talking about a fictional or possible future centenarian Olympics but he's really just talking about training for life. It doesn't matter what ultimate age you get to, it's the quality of your life that matters.

And the point is, what you do today and going forward is what dictates how your life will evolve and ultimately turn out.

No one wants to live to 95 to sit in a wheelchair and wait for someone to move them to the next room. If you're gonna live long, you want to live awesome.

You want to travel and see your kids and their kids and be active and still do fun things. You don't want to be doing the senior shuffle dragging your oxygen tank.

You live in a time where the food system and modern life is killing you but the medical system will keep you alive. Not a thriving alive, but alive enough so you can have many years slowly sliding into the crapper. (there's no money in healthy people and dead people)

That's not what you want. Me neither. But have you given the thought to it like Dr Attia talks about in the video? I like his approach. He has identified stuff he needs to be able to do to keep his life under his own control.

Carry stuff. Do stuff. Get up off the ground. Be independent.

Do this right now: Go sit on the floor away from all furniture. Now get up using just a single point of contact with the floor. This means just put one hand down on the floor and then stand up. No knees on the floor, no grabbing the arm of the sofa, just go from sitting on your butt to standing with only one hand touching the floor.

You want to be able to do this. Today, in 10 years and as long as you live. If you're having problems, you just need to start working on it. Strength solves all problems.

Watch the video It's pretty good. Not too long.

Check it out and then ask yourself if your current habits and goals will take you to the centenarian Olympics.

Let's up our game and meet in the arena.

Cheers -

PS - If you couldn't get off the floor with just one hand, give me a call. You're a bit behind the centenarian curve but can still recover. I'll give you some ideas.
